Hallmark Channel Countdown to Christmas

From the last weekend in October until January 1st, Hallmark Channel runs the seasonal block called Countdown to Christmas, featuring a mix of holiday movies, specials and holiday-themed original programming. Countdown to Christmas officially began in 2009, while the channel’s first holiday original movie was aired in 2000. Since 2012, the network has also held a “Christmas in July” event with airings of previous movies. In February 2019, it was announced that in honor of the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Countdown to Christmas event, the channel would air selections of movies on Friday nights throughout the year. This is continuing in 2020.

I was set to tape all of the Hallmark Christmas shows in July and the man came and changed out my cable box and i lost them all. Will they be on the air again this year?

Thank you. I was so disappointed.

My husband and I agree with Marie who wrote on December 27, 2014:

“I am so disappointed in the Christmas movie selection this year. All of the older Christmas movies e.g. Silver Bells, The Christmas Card and The Wishing Tree were not shown on the Hallmark channel I get.”

We have been loyal Hallmark Channel viewers for years and were looking forward to this year’s season of Christmas movies. However, when we discovered that many of our favorites had been moved to another Hallmark Channel, we were very disappointed but decided we were willing to pay the extra monthly fee to continue our family Christmas traditions. When I contacted our carrier, we were told that the only way we could add the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel was to upgrade our entire package to the HD package! That would have meant replacing our TVs and all new equipment, none of which was feasible for us. So we were stuck with the one Hallmark Channel which not only did not show our favorites but added several new inane and overly predictable movies to their line up – gone were the clever plots. Most of the new movies have a pat format – main character dating unemotional, commercially employed partner and/or in awful job; meets attractive, free-spirited, alternative that steals the heart of the star too early in the movie. While that has often been the underlying theme of the old movies, they included interesting situations or thoughtful plots. Add us to the list of very disappointed Hallmark watchers.

Will you PLEASE stop with the Christmas movies!!!! The holidays are over, deal with it!! Some of us have had enough and would like to enjoy some regular shows before you bombard us with Valentine’s day nausea. I specifically dropped AT&T because they didn’t carry The Hallmark channel and now I’m seriously regretting it. Enough already!!

Thank you so much for playing the Most Wonderful Time of the Year today. I watched every minute. I enjoy every one of your movies and I think it is wonderful that you play them for as many weeks as you do. It puts us in the Christmas spirit. I certainly do not agree with those who think you play them too much. PLEASE do it again next year.

Can’t tell you how disappointed I am with the selection of Christmas movies this year (2014). The 2013 and 2014 movies were shown over and over. The older favorites–if shown at all seemed to be so early in the morning, that they weren’t listed in the paper. Yes, new is good, but the old shows are timeless and so meaningful to all ages. Examples:The Christmas Card, The Most Wonderful Time Of The year, Fallen Angel, are just a few. In the past, I was glued to Hallmark Channel, but I watched very little this year.

I do agree that we did not get to see our old favorites that much.
The new ones were great but didn’t need to be played over and over again.

I am so disappointed in the Christmas movie selection this year. All of the older Christmas movies e.g. Silver Bells, The Christmas Card and The Wishing Tree were not shown on the Hallmark channel I get. The decision not to show these movies, is a poor decision and will likely lead to viewers turning the Hallmark channel off. In view of the disappointing Christmas movies, I doubt that I will be tuning in to Hallmark any time soon. I will have to purchase the DVDs I like. A displeased former Hallmark viewer.

I turned the channel when they kept the movies going 24/7 for 2 months.
